How to throw a Boomerang

Pintail Woodworks Boomerangs

Throwing boomerangs was a fun passtime when I was a kid. They’re more complex to throw than a frisbee but they go higher and farther.

As I began my woodworking business, this was one of the first products I wanted to create for my shop because they can be so much fun.

However, it’s important to remember that boomerangs are not toys. If thrown without adult supervision, it can lead to serious injury. You have to be alert and aware when you throw, give yourself plenty of room, and, despite what you may have seen in the cartoon Avatar and other popular films or TV shows, never try to catch a boomerang with your hand when it comes back around. Your hand won’t thank you for that.

How to Throw a Boomerang

1. Find an open field with plenty of room

2. Make sure everyone is paying attention when you get ready to throw

3. Understand the direction of the wind and how much there is. This will impact how you throw the boomerang.

How to Throw a Boomerang With or Without Wind

  • If windy, throw it vertically into the wind.

  • If no wind, throw it at a slight angle. NEVER THROW FLAT.

4. Let the boomerang return close to you but don’t try to catch it with your hand

5. Practice. Practice. Practice.

About Pintail Woodworks Boomerangs

Pintail Woodworks Boomerangs are made with a certain kind of wood and shape that helps the boomerangs fly. I have also created a slight curve on one side of the boomerang to show you where to grip the boomerang when you throw.
